Hopeful Mindset

How do we keep a hopeful mindset when it feels like circumstances aren’t going right? Here’s an excerpt from a post by Gloria Copeland, on KCM Ministries’ Faith to Faith Daily Devotional.

“A friend of mine once met a born-again Arab woman in the Middle East who was living proof of that. The woman was caught in a life most of us would consider almost unbearable. She was living in a war zone that had been torn up by violence. She faced the danger of bombs and bullets every day.

Now that Arab woman had no hope in the natural. Her country was being destroyed around her. She had to go to Israel to work and get money for her family because there were no jobs where she was, no way to make money. Things around her seemed to be going from bad to worse, but she told my friend she had hope because she knew that Jesus was coming back for her. And that hope kept her going.

So, if you’re feeling hopeless, get your eyes off this world and get them on the soon return of Jesus. Not only will that raise your spirits, the Bible says it will purify you. It will cause you to live uprightly, to separate you from the sin and failure of the world around you. It will lift you into the joy and victory of God.”

The story makes me realize how fortunate we are to live in America, and, that as more acts of violence appear in the news that we have to remember that our safety, our hope is in Christ.

Please leave a response about how you keep a hopeful mindset.

Can You Have Money and Not Riches?

I believe it is true that you can have money and not riches. When you look at your life in the context of the quality of life, what are riches? I’m not saying that money is evil, because it isn’t, yet if the acquisition of money is your prime motivator in life, you could be very empty inside.

What if you have money but no integrity? Or poor health, or a bad attitude? In that case I wonder if the money created riches in your life?

Personally, riches include no worry because I know that ultimately God is in charge. Even when circumstances don’t go as planned, I have peace that God will provide. Sometimes that’s about me depending on Him and following what He directs me to do. He expects me to use the gifts He has given me, and how cool it is to be able to encourage people, to help people learn new skills, to get paid for writing!

For me riches include great health and a wonderful family, being able to coach and help others achieve their goals and dreams. Working, using natural gifts that God has given me is such a blessing.

What are your riches? How do they make your life deeply joyful? Please leave a comment.

The Joy of the Lord is My Strength

Wouldn’t it be great to walk in God’s strength, and joy as only God can give, and not our own? It’s hard to do sometimes. Here’s what the psalmist says”

Psalm 89:15-17

“Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! They walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance. 16 In Your name they rejoice all day long, And in Your righteousness they are exalted. 17 For You are the glory of their strength, And in Your favor our horn is exalted.”

Next time you feel like you are struggling with anything and not focusing on the joy of the Lord, stop and remember Him. It doesn’t mean the struggle will immediately disappear, but your attitude toward it can change. I believe joy is deeper than happiness. It transcends our circumstances. When I don’t feel joyful, I stop and thank God for his amazing blessings. That attitude of gratitude brings back the joy!

Speak Words of Life!

Amazing how the power of our words can impact our own lives and the lives of others. The impact of what we speak to ourselves in thought and out loud is a spiritual principle as well as a scientific fact.

Proverbs 18:21 says

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.”

I think this applies to how we pray, which should focus on speaking God’s promises, and how we talk to people and ourselves. If you say (think) to yourself, I’m just not good at remembering names, guess what. You won’t be good at remembering names.

I think it’s so cool how scripture weaves into science. The fact is, many people speak affirmations daily to keep their mindset in the right place. What we speak verbally, the sub-conscious mind, which drives our behavior, hears and acts on! One of my affirmations is “I glorify the Lord in all things.” Saying that is a GOOD way to start the day!

Over the last few weeks, I have not spoken affirmations at the beginning of each day, due to a heavy work and travel schedule. I found myself in a bit of a mental challenge and thinking about the wrong things . . . people and situations I really don’t have control over. This morning I went back to my routine of adding affirmations to my prayer and reading-the-Bible time. It’s put my mind in the right place.

Please leave a comment about how positive words impact you. I love to hear from you!

Faith of a Mustard Seed

” . . . for assuredly I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”

Matthew 17: 20, New King James

Just a tiny bit of faith and calling on God can produce such big results! Moving mountains! Yet, why in our walk with the Lord do we lack faith? Earlier in the passage Jesus told his disciples that the young boy they prayed over was not delivered and healed of epilepsy because of their unbelief.

Our unbelief comes from not believing in the depths of our hearts that God can and does work miracles. Sometimes He works those miracles in his own way. Many times when I pray with people for healing, I ask that God will give us the faith to believe that He can heal us. I never pray, “Lord, if it is not your will to heal . . .” because I believe that sows doubt and unbelief regarding God’s healing power. In a world where we feel we can and must control everything, faith can be pretty tough to achieve.

Pray with faith, and if you lack it, ask the Lord to give you the gift of faith. May the Lord bless you with deep faith in Him today!
