Walk in Wisdom

I’ve been praying for wisdom in the last few weeks. This has created an interesting shift in my life. Since praying for this I am more careful about what I say. I find myself more likely to listen and less likely to spout my opinion. Some are glad for this!

I looked up wisdom in my study Bible and came across a scripture in 1 Corinthians 1:10 where the apostle Paul says, “For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel – not with the words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.”

Paul goes on to discuss that the message of the cross is foolishness to those who do not know God, but power to those who do. True wisdom comes from God and it is different than smarts. We all know plenty of people who are intelligent, but not wise. And, God’s wisdom is truly superior to man-made wisdom.

Try it . . . ask God for wisdom in all situations. He will provide a path for you that is far better than something you can come up with on your own. May you walk in His wisdom everyday!

Pray Bigger

A friend asked me to pray for a real estate deal she was trying to get closed. Snags continued to appear and seemed to threaten getting the deal done. So I went to my Father in Heaven to ask Him how to pray. I felt I should pray for provision for my friend, which is bigger than the details of one real estate deal.

I do believe that God has the hairs on our head numbered and that He is interested in every little detail of our lives. I also think that in our human-ness we sometimes limit Him, because we forget how big and all-powerful He is. Sometimes we focus on the wrong thing.

1 Timothy 4:17 says: “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.”

God is our hope and our provision. If we put our hope and trust in Him, He will take care of us. Imagine what He wants for you that is far beyond what you can see. As for my friend, God continues to defeat those snags in her real estate transaction, and I believe He will bless her in ways that she can’t see.

Pray for Wisdom

A friend of mine asked me to pray for protection from mistakes in her personal and business life. I like to pray in the positive, so I felt that God would have me pray for wisdom and knowledge. I looked up wisdom in my concordance and of course came up with a scripture in 2 Chronicles 1 about King Solomon, where he asks God for wisdom.

10 Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of Yours?”

11 Then God said to Solomon: “Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked riches or wealth or honor or the life of your enemies, nor have you asked long life—but have asked wisdom and knowledge for yourself, that you may judge My people over whom I have made you king— 12 wisdom and knowledge are granted to you; and I will give you riches and wealth and honor, such as none of the kings have had who were before you, nor shall any after you have the like.”

If we pray for God’s wisdom and knowledge, how can we go wrong? For He will grow our minds in the way He thinks and into His nature. Clearly, we are still human and still have limitations, yet how different might life be if we started to seek His face, then His hand.

Is Religion in the Way?

Sometimes people ask me if I am religious. My answer is always, no, I’m not religious, but I have a strong faith in God. Honestly, I bristle just a bit when people ask if I’m religious, because my relationship with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is very important to me.

I need to check myself on that. Am I letting church rituals or prayer rituals get in the way of building a stronger relationship with God? What am I doing to build a stronger and stronger relationship with Him daily?

If you think about human relationships that you have, what helps them get stronger? Spending time together, listening to each other, being “in the moment” with the other person. Putting the other person first often strengthens that bond, because it demonstrates your love or caring for the other person.

So, what about our relationship with God? Are we spending time with Him, listening to Him, telling Him how much we love Him? That is how we will build a stronger communion with Him.

What have you been doing to build a stronger relationship with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit? Please leave a comment so we can all share with each other!
