Humble Leadership

The priest at the Anglican church I attend is a wonderful shepherd and leader. He is very lively and his messages reach right to the heart and encourage us to live out our faith boldly.

What is so very striking to me is his transparent humility. Meaning, he’s all about God, not himself. He’s not afraid to show us who he really is. He leads us not only with his messages but the way he presents himself and the way he lives. He is fired up for God, joyfully funny and encourages us to be courageous in our faith. I believe he demonstrates humble leadership.

Why do I call it humble leadership?  Because he gives God the credit for the blessings of this life, he focuses on the needs of others and yet he can preach a sermon that inspires me to go make a difference in the world.

As Christians, we have the opportunity to lead people to faith. How do we do that? By showing God’s grace to people, accepting them as they are and bolding sharing the truth about salvation.

Bold Faith

When you have times of discouragement as a Christian, remember to look up, to look to God’s promises. This is a way of renewing your faith. The Christian life is not meant to be easy, but it’s totally worth it! A Christian walk requires bold faith!

In Romans chapter 4:13-21 we see a description of Abraham’s faith. God told Abraham he made him a father of many nations, yet Abraham and Sarah were REALLY old and still with no children. The passage says that Abraham “was not weak in his faith based on his own body and the deadness of Sarah’s womb.” He did not “waiver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He (God) had promised, He was also able to perform.”

And look what happened. Looking back to Genesis 21, the Lord gave Abraham and Sarah a son, Isaac, just as He had promised. In the natural, Sarah bearing a child was impossible, but nothing is impossible for God.

Are you in a place where it seems like God is not fulfilling His promises? Stop looking at the world and the circumstances around you . . . look up, look to God, give Him praise. Find His promises in scripture and pray them boldly. There is so much God wants for you! Follow His direction, claim His promises and walk in bold faith.

Courageous Faith

If you read the story of queen Esther in the book of Esther, you will discover a woman of great faith, who literally risked her life for the sake of the Jewish people.

What’s interesting about her brave act of approaching the king at the risk of losing her life is what she did to prepare. She asked Mordecai, her advisor and the man who raised her, to gather the Israelites to get them to fast and pray before she approached the king to plead the case of the Israelites. She and her maids also fasted for three days.

When she approached the king, after fasting and praying, she found favor with him. He extended his scepter, allowing her to approach him in his throne room. If he had not extended the scepter to her, she would have been put to death.

What act of faith is God calling you to? Rarely do we have to risk our lives for our faith, yet we as Christians, each of us has a purpose in God’s plan. How willing are we to engage in our calling to serve God, no matter what that is, and no matter the cost?

Serve Him, however He has asked you to. And, when God asks you to do something big, that puts you out of your comfort zone, seek Him, pray, prepare yourself for whatever the task is. When you are prepared you can exercise your faith in courageous ways to accomplish amazing things for God!
