God isn’t “After You”

In a recent daily email devotional, Kenneth Copeland was responding to some people saying, even in jest, “God’s going to get you for that.” A poignant comment he made was, “Remember this: No matter what you’ve done, God doesn’t want to get you for it, He wants to forgive you of it. He doesn’t want to slap you down, He wants to save you and lift you up.”

Our God is like that loving earthly father who understands how hard it is to walk through this life and how imperfect we are as human beings. As parents we see our children go through growing pains and sometimes learn painful lessons. Those growing pains are what build their character.

God is not sitting up there waiting to find us doing something wrong. He is looking down on us lovingly, ready to forgive any wayward step we take, ready to gently guide us to a better path.

Think of your Heavenly Father as one who is watching you, looking after you with adoring and loving eyes.

Seek His Face, Then His Hand

Years ago a young woman told me something that she read in her quest for getting closer to the Lord. She said, “Seek His face, then His hand.” A simple yet powerful statement.

If we are constantly seeking God’s face, working on a deeper and deeper relationship with Him, He becomes more than a deity that we go to when we need something. He longs to be in relationship with us so badly that He gave His only son for us. He saved us by grace, not just so we can go to heaven. Our life in Him and with Him starts now, on the earth.

This week many of us remember the last days of Jesus on the earth. We see His resolve to face what He knew he had to do to fulfill His purpose, even though it would be grueling.

Stop today, seek the Lord, get quiet before Him. Seek a deeper and more meaningful relationship with Him.
