Leave the Heavy Lifting to God

A small area of my back yard needs a few bushes and flowers. I have a vision of how it should look: tall bushes, shorter bushes in front of the taller ones and flowers, with a stone border. Rather than pay a landscaper, I decided to do the work myself, a little at a time. My yardman is happy to plant anything I put out at no extra charge.

I purchased the bushes and flowers, but arrived home with them as the yardman was driving off, so it just has to wait until next week. Meanwhile the flowers I have to plant need to be put in the ground soon. I thought perhaps I should just plant them, because that does not require substantial digging, yet, the large plants should be planted first.

So, I was faced with planting the big bushes myself, until this morning. God sent this gentle rain that watered those flowers all morning. As I was sitting in my quiet time I felt Him telling me that He doesn’t want me doing the heavy lifting. I realized that letting Him do the heavy lifting applies to all areas of my life.

In Matthew 11:29-30, Jesus says:

29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Jesus is saying that we can find rest in Him rather than striving for salvation through fruitless efforts to fulfill the law. He has provided salvation through His grace . . . no striving necessary. For me this applies to business as well. My job is to do as He directs, and He will miraculously multiply the obedient actions that I take.

So take action as He directs, but let Jesus do the heavy lifting!

Is Jesus Your Lord?

My church has a special service monthly called Habitation. One of our elders, who leads the service always gives a poignant and anointed message. He talked about joining God’s army. One of the themes in his message last night was, “Are you really a Christian?” He asked, “Is Jesus really Lord of your life?”

He told us that “Lord” occurs 5000 times in scripture. That is many more times than the word “Savior.” If Jesus is not really the Lord of everything in your life, your relationships, your thoughts, your finances, your body, your work . . . who is?

The leader quoted Matthew 7:21-23, which says:

21“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

The point is, just because you go to church, sit in the pew, pray, read the Bible, do good works and even pray a rote prayer of salvation, it does not mean you will live eternally with God in heaven.

If you have any doubt whether you would go to heaven if you died tonight, stop and pray from the depths of your heart, “Lord, I am a sinner and cannot earn my way to heaven except by the blood of Jesus. Thank you God for sending your son Jesus to die on the cross, to stand in my place in death so that I can live. Thank you Jesus for Your blood that washed me clean of my sin. God, I invite you into my heart. I want You to be the Lord of my life, the Lord of everything.”

Your life will change. It doesn’t mean everything will be easy, but it does mean that now you have Jesus on the throne of your heart and your life. Find a true Christian mentor, who has made Jesus the Lord of his or her life, who can help you and guide you in your journey. Read your Bible every day, it will provide you strength. Make Jesus Lord every day!

Renewal by Changing Your Mind

What goes on in your mind impacts what you do. Think about it . . . If you worry about saying the wrong thing at work, don’t you seem to do that? If you say to yourself, I’m ALWAYS running late . . . don’t you?

Renewal by changing your mind is about choosing God’s way. What are the thoughts that God would put in your brain? They are thoughts of grace, of love, of following disciplines that will give you a wonderfully abundant life.

When the enemy reminds you of past failures, of what’s wrong with you, don’t accept it. Look to the Lord to know how He views the situation. The enemy condemns you for your faults. The Lord convicts you of what you need to change to make your life more abundant.

Renew your mind by reading the right scriptures . . . scriptures of faith, scriptures of victory, scriptures of healing.
