How is God Calling You to Use Your Gifts?

]I love the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30. In biblical times a talent was an increment of money. I would like to think of it now in terms of specific gifts and talents that God has given each of us.

And, I believe He has called each and everyone of us to a specific purpose on this earth. And I’m not talking about the role of mother or father, sister or brother….

What specific gifts, talents and calling has God given you? How does He want you to use the gifts you have to further His kingdom?

You may be a gifted artist, and God wants you to use that to His Glory. Perhaps you went through a hard time in your life and God will use your story to give other people hope.

If you don’t know, ask Him. “Lord what is the reason you put me on the planet? How can I serve You with the gifts and talents You have given me?”

What’s God’s calling on your life? Following it will give you a sense of purpose into old age.

Stay Spiritually Fit

One of my daughters is always urging me to exercise daily. I’m not as consistent as I should be. The fact is, over the age of 50 we lose strength if we not stretching and exercising. In other words we have to work at it!

The same is true for our spiritual lives. I have found that creating a habit of praying first thing in the morning, reading the Bible or listening to uplifting Christian music starts the day right. The true discipline comes with really digging into God’s Word. God will sometimes give me a scripture passage to study. Each time I read that passage, something new appears that I didn’t think of before.

If you need direction from a person, find a Bible teacher you can follow. With so many wonderful teachers writing books and pastors posting sermons on the Internet, you should be able to find your favorite teacher.

Keep your spiritual strength up! Exercise it every day!

Manufacturing Results for God

I was talking to a woman of God, who I really respect. I shared with her that I feel God calling me to speak to women’s and church groups on the topics of my books, but I don’t think God wants me to manufacture that. Meaning, I don’t believe He wants me to create a huge marketing plan and make a certain number of calls each day, like I might do for a corporate sales plan.

I believe this is a test of faith for me. If I continue to follow His direction and write what He tells me to, let people know that I’m available to speak, He will do the rest. While I believe we are His hands and feet on the earth, He doesn’t need our help manufacturing results for Him.

I’m reminded of Isaiah 59:1. “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy that it cannot hear.” I apply this scripture to the notion that God’s power is never diminished. We need to let Him be Lord . . . and let Him work His mighty miracles!
