Arrogance or Insecurity?

Honestly, one of my pet peeves is arrogance. Because I believe all that we have comes from God, I don’t see how any of us have a right to be arrogant. Proverbs 8:13 says: “The  fear of the Lord is to hate evil; pride and arrogance and the evil way…” In Isaiah 13:11, the Lord speaks through the prophet to say, “I will punish the world for its evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; I will halt the arrogance of the proud . . .” And yet, I have no right to judge people as arrogant.

In my prayers about this, God nudged me to look at the cause of arrogance, which is often insecurity. That puts it in a different light. What He showed me is that rather than judging someone as arrogant, perhaps I should show grace toward the person. That doesn’t mean that I feed the arrogance by playing into it. It means listening, understanding, praying as God directs.

Take Immediate Action!

I have a friend who is in a sales role for a local company. She spends a great deal of time meeting new people and scheduling follow up actions with the potential clients. In sales meetings, it’s not uncommon for her to look up a company on the Internet that is mentioned in the meeting as a potential client, and immediately enter that company into the prospect database. I notice that she always takes immediate action.

It reminds me of what we need to do when God directs us to take action on something. In Deuteronomy 8:28 He says to “diligently obey,” which to me means to be purposeful in doing what He says and do it now. The tricky part is listening to Him so much that we don’t wonder if that’s really Him speaking to us.

Try asking Him every morning, “What do you have for me today Lord? What is your agenda?” Be blessed in following His directions!
